Top Ten Beatles Songs of All Time

Share

I, like a lot of you out there it seems, love The Beatles. And with the new Rock Band devoted to nothing but The Beatles, I thought it would be cool for my first real blog post ever to be a list of what I think is the top 10 Beatles songs of all time.  These songs aren't necessarily my favorite of all time, but instead what I think are the most popular, influential and/or moving of all the great Beatles songs out there. This list isn't based on anything but my on personal opinion so if you think that I've got it wrong in anyway, feel free to leave me feedback in the comment section. With that said, lets get started......

10. You Never Give Me Your Money

The reason why I picked this song is simple, I just love it. If you've never heard it, then that means you've never sat down and listen to Abbey Road all the way through as well. If this is the case, then I advise you to acquire Abbey Road in whatever means you would like and listen to it from beginning to end. It is by far one of the best albums I have ever heard and I am sure if you enjoy The Beatles music at all, it will be yours as well.

9. Day Tripper

There are many different reasons I think this song deserves to be on this top 10 list. From its obvious sexual innuendos with lyrics like "She's a big teaser, She took me half the way there now" to the rumors that the song itself was actually a play on words about Lennon's weekend LSD habits which he was said to be introduced to in 1965 when this song was released. Not only that, it has one of the most unmistakable opening riffs there is,  as soon as you here it you know what is it.

8. I've Just Seen A Face

Off their "Help" album, this song has had a new resurgence thanks mostly due to the new musical/movie "Across The Universe" were it is one of the staple songs sung by actor Jim Sturgess. While the version from the movie is very good, the original keeps more of that country twang that the heavier movie version just doesn't have for me. Its also one of my girlfriends favorite songs, and every guy knows he can't leave his girlfriends favorite song out of his top 10 if he doesn't want to be in the dog house later.

7. With a Little Help From My Friends

This song has taken many forms over the years which has kept it in the spotlight for quiet sometime. From the Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album from wench it came, to Joe Crockers eight minute heart wrenching rendition of it at the Woodstock '69, to its rebirth yet again in "Across the Universe", this song has stood the test of time and is undoubtedly one of there best. Everyone needs a little help from their friends at sometime in their life, and I think this song really captures that moment.

6. I Want To Hold Your Hand

I have a challenge for you when listening this song. I challenge you to press play, sit down and try to get as mad as you possibly can while listening. After about two second of trying, I almost positive that you will first start singing along in your head, then tapping your foot to the beat, and finally singing and clapping completely forgetting my challenge. If you can listen to this song and it doesn't put you in a better mood, there's something wrong with you. This song, created before their mop-top image began to slowly fade away, is a timeless classic. Though simple in its nature, it really shows that less is more and that something as simple as holding someones hand can be special.

5. Revolution

This song is one of the Beatles heavier songs, that is if you are listening to the version from this Hey Jude single instead of the much slower "Revolution 1" from the White Album. This song was written at the peak of U.S. involvement in Vietnam in 1968 which I'm sure you already knew without me telling you if you have ever listen to the song. The loud over driven guitar, not commonly used by The Beatles, really reflects how tense the times were and the emotions of that period. The main reason I chose this song, however, is because of its message. What I get out of this song is that Lennon believes that just because you see something wrong and know it needs to be changed, you shouldn't lose your morals or humanity doing. Saying, in a sense, that two wrongs don't make a right.

4. I Am the Walrus

If anything, this song is great because it barely makes any sense at all but somehow still as popular as it is. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's story "The Walrus and the Carpenter" and a lot of drugs, you can really see the shift towards more psychedelic LSD trip feeling in the music. I've heard people say that you can really here in different generations music what drug was popular at the time because it shows. Plus the image of "yellow mustard custard dripping from a dead dogs eye" is just great visual line.

3. Hey Jude

This is one of the most iconic songs of The Beatles. I could just sit down at a piano and play the first three chords and you would know what I was playing without ever singing a word. It also has all the basic elements of a Beatles song; makes you feel good, makes you start singing along, and gives you some great advice about life. "For well you know that its a fool who plays it cool, by making his world a little colder" is just a great line, and its just one of the many in this song. Not to mention the crazy screaming breakdown at the end.....Priceless Beatles

2. Come Together

If some one were to say pick two songs that epitomizes who The Beatles are and what there message was about, this song and the next would be the two I would pick. The chorus was said to be created by John for a friend wanting to run in politics but never did, and the verses are said to be talking about each Beatle individually. With so many people coming together because of The Beatles, you can see why I think a song like Come Together really sums up what The Beatles were all about.

1. All You Need Is Love

I mean, what else is there to say? If there is one thing that John, Paul, George and Ringo wanted to do, it was spread love everywhere and to anyone that wanted to listen. So, what better song to have at my number one spot then their song telling you that that was all you needed. I feel that there has never been in truer words spoken in a song before or since. If everyone loved each other equally and treated others with the same respect that they want for themselves then we would have a perfect world.

Well, that's it. I hope you enjoyed my list and will share your favorite Beatles songs by commenting. There will be more serious topics to come but I thought I would start off with something light before getting in to deep on my opinions. Thanks again....Later...
